If you consume 25% less calories per day it will put your body at a calorie deficit and this will cause weight loss. A practical goal will be to lose 10 pounds in 5 to 10 weeks. You can cut down on calories by simply reducing your portion size by one-third, which will lead to a loss of 1 to 2 pounds each week. </p>
<p>If you want to go on a diet to reduce, see that you plan out one that you can also enjoy. That way you will stick to the diet plan and make it a part of your life. Females could plan their diet between 1200 and 1400 calories per day, while males should plan between 1700 to 2000 calories to lose weight. Everybody responds differently to diets. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was so embarrassed for her. After a grueling 45 minutes on the Stairmaster, Kathy rewarded herself with a bag of Ruffles and a Diet Coke. Yet still insatiable, she drank two breakfast drinks and finished off little Emily’s last five Oreos. </p>
<p>Kathy’s post workout binges are nothing new. Neither are the extra 10 pounds living around her hips that she can’t seem to lose. But once Kathy puts these simple three steps to good use, she smile gaily as her last 10 pounds melt away. </p>
<p>Step 1: Eat at least 45 minutes before you exercise. </p>
<p>Ok, if you are now envisioning guilt eating and compensation exercising stop. This is not about eating a chocolate bar now and exercising it off later. It’s about, giving your body the energy it needs to sustain a good 45-60minute workout. </p>
<p>Eat a light snack consisting of 300-500 calories. This could be a bagel, with a slice of turkey and a whole tomato. Or it could be a protein bar. </p>
<p>The point is to get some carbohydrates, proteins and fats in your system now so that it has something to run on later. With this pre-workout meal, carbohydrates are critical because you want energy for your workout. </p>
<p>Eating 45 minutes before a workout will not make you fat. If anything, it will spend up your metabolism if you do this regularly. </p>
<p>Step 2: Drink lots of water while exercising  </p>
<p>Your body should be 70% water and it knows this. When exercising, you could easily lose up to three pounds of water during one exercise. </p>
<p>Please don’t beat yourself up if you don’t lose three pounds. I watch women get upset at the gym everyday after their post-workout weighting ritual, if they haven’t lost weight. The weight will come off. </p>

Since the late 1980s, adult obesity has steadily and substantially increased in the United States. Today, 64 percent of all Americans weigh too much and over 30 percent are obese; in 1988 through 1992, fewer than 56 percent were overweight and fewer than 23 percent of American adults were obese.<br />
The trends for children are even more worrisome. Recent research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 15 percent of children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 are overweight &#8211; double the rate of two decades ago. As Americans get heavier, their health suffers. Overweight and obesity increase the risk for coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. According to some estimates, at least 400,000 deaths each year may be attributed to obesity.<br />
What people must know is that you can improve your health quickly with just a small amount of weight loss. We know that physical activity along with reduced calorie consumption can lead to the 5 to 10 percent weight loss necessary to achieve remission of the obesity-associated complications, says William Dietz, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).<br />
Most doctors agree, losing one to two pounds a week is safe and recommended by most doctors for most people. This breaks down to 250 to 1,000 calories per day. You can achieve this easily if you follow some or all of the following guidelines :<br />
1. Use skim milk instead of whole milk or cream in your coffee.<br />
2. Eat low fat yogurt instead of ice cream.<br />
3. Eat more bright colored (green, yellow, orange, red) fruits and vegetables.<br />

5. Eat whole wheat or multigrain bread, instead of white bread.<br />
6. Use a sugar replacement instead of sugar (avoid Aspartame).<br />
7. Drink water instead of soft drinks.<br />
8. When you eat out, avoid fried foods.<br />
9. Walk or do similar exercises (e.g. Golf, Tennis) at least 20 minutes a day.<br />
